This annual celebration of Bellevue’s heritage culminates on Saturday with a parade of approximately 120 entries, pancake feed, free pony rides, pedal pull for children, Native American crafts, stories, and music, bounce houses, stick horse races, decorating cupcakes for Nebraska’s 150 anniversary, music in the park, log cabin tours, military K-9 demos, Visit with the Animals, food booths, vendors, and solar eclipse crafts. Three Humanities Nebraska presentations are featured on Thursday and Saturday – “History of Nebraska as told by Peter Sarpy” with Darrell Draper, “Children Stories, Animal Stories and Traditional Lakota Stories” with Jerome Kills Small, and “Walking with a Dream: John Neihardt’s Preparation for Black Elk Speaks” with Timothy G. Anderson. Seniors are treated to music and lunch on Friday. The Kiwanis Club of Bellevue-Offutt has hosted this event since 1989, but a celebration of Bellevue’s heritage dates back to the 1950s.
