Nebraska City has been chosen by Humanities of Nebraska as one of just two Chautauqua sites in Nebraska in 2017. Nebraska City has a reputation for successfully hosting annual festivals and for managing major tourist attractions. We are confident that Chautauqua 2017 in Nebraska City will be an educational and memorable event.

The planning committee has been collaborating for the past two years with Peru State College’s plans for their 150th Anniversary celebration events. The Chautauqua events will involve people from throughout Southeast Nebraska.

The national Chautauqua committee chose the theme “World War I: Legacies of a Forgotten War”. Our committee will design programs, workshops and speakers to explore this topic, to teach attendees of the Great War’s impact in the history of Nebraska in the 1917 time frame. We will develop pre-event programming…ideas for events and activities focused on the theme are already surfacing.
