Gothenburg has hosted a Harvest Festival for more than 100 years. This year’s theme “Celebrate BIG!” is in honor of Nebraska’s 150th celebration. A family night on Sept. 15 will be like a giant birthday party with music, games, food and fun for all ages, topped off with birthday cake and ice cream. Saturday starts with a parade under the same theme, followed by the State Hand Cornhusking Contest. This is the second consecutive year Gothenburg has hosted the cornhusking contest. Last year brought in hundreds of people from across the state. We had such high reviews that we decided to do it one more time. We expect it to be bigger and better this year. There are activities for young and old, men and women, farmers and non-farmers. From hand picking corn to farm machinery demonstrations and competitions, craft and food vendors to kids games and a pedal pull, there’s something for everyone.
