Leyton’s Nebraska 150th Birthday Celebration
March 1, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Our students, Kindergarten through Sixth grade, will be rotating through seven different stations. The first station will be a wagon pulled by a team of horses taking the students on a ride around the town of Gurley. The wagon is not large enough to fit all of our students, so the other group will be playing old fashioned games while waiting for their wagon ride. The second station is branding and roping. Our local power company will be helping with this station. Each child will get to use an electric branding iron and brand their own board. We will also have several roping dummies for the students to practice their roping skills on. Our third station is a giant map of Nebraska. The students will be locating trails and landmarks on. The fourth station is a sample of Nebraska’s farming and ranching. Some of our local farmers are coming in to talk about all the crops grown in Nebraska. Station five will include park rangers from Agate Fossil Bed National Monument talking to our students about Native American history and fossils. Hunting and Fishing in Nebraska will be station six, where we have a local Science teacher coming in to talk about this. Our final station is on quilting and butter making. Ladies from the Mormon Church will be coming in to demonstrate this. Each station will be 20 minutes long. Throughout the day students will sample snacks grown or originating in Nebraska.
