Living History Days
July 15, 2017 @ 9:30 am - July 16, 2017 @ 4:30 pm
Our contribution to the Nebraska 150 is to build on what we do best- hands-on, family activities centered around the history and progression of agriculture and Nebraska life. As mentioned above, this year will be special because it will be a two day event; prior years it has been only a Sunday afternoon event. In addition, we typically stick to the 1920s way of life to the present, as we are set up as a 1920s farm. This year, we plan to expand our demonstrations, entertainment and activities to give our guests an experience that takes them back to 1867 and leads them through today’s technology and knowledge, in celebration of 150 years of statehood. With reenactors who can demonstrate and teach skills that are no longer necessary to our everyday lives, and the contribution of today’s experts in the ag industry, we hope to inspire our guests to appreciate the history that has led to Nebraska as an ag leader. Join us on the farm for demonstrations ranging from blacksmithing and use of antique farm machinery to weaving and spinning, cooking on the wood stove and more. Sip lemonade on the front porch, climb up on the antique tractors, tour the house, church, schoolhouse and the rest of the farm buildings, visit the friendly animals, get in on a wagon or manure spreader ride, test your skills at various farm activities common to families over the last 150 years, and enjoy musical entertainment. Lunch options will be available both days. Our gift shop features Nebraska made or grown items, books by Nebraska authors, old fashioned treats and more.
