The Umonhon People who make up the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska are the original inhabitants of the state of Nebraska. We are the only tribe in Nebraska that reside on our original homelands at the time statehood was established. The Hedewaci Ceremony or Harvest Celebration has been practiced for hundreds of years. The four day event begins Thursday, August 18 and features the traditional Umonhon Hethuska or wardance. Thursday and Friday afternoon consist of traditional days where the Umonhon people come together and reunite from all over the world and to dance in the circle together. Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday are open for contest dancing and include dancers from all over the country who come to celebrate with the Unonhon people. Our goal is to promote, support and encourage interest and knowledge about the Omaha culture and heritage. There will be craft vendors on site from all over the country selling food, jewelry, and other Native American Arts and Crafts .
