April 23, 2017 - April 29, 2017
During 2017 National Volunteer Week, April 23 – 29, thousands of Nebraskans demonstrate their commitment to volunteerism by engaging in activities that directly benefit their communities, schools, nonprofits, churches, parks and other causes. ServeNebraska selected this week specifically to celebrate the great work Nebraska citizens do in their communities. The program is volunteer-driven, giving participants the flexibility to choose how they serve their local communities and for how long.
The first 300 volunteers to commit to service that week will receive a free commemorative t-shirt, sponsored by State Farm. Volunteers may also submit their favorite nonprofit, local government agency or church into a drawing for an additional $500 donation, sponsored by the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission.
This year’s event is even more significant because we are celebrating in coordination with the Nebraska 150 Commission and their sponsorship of NebraskaImpact.com, a new website launched as part of Nebraska’s 150th anniversary celebration, to recognize and encourage Nebraska’s longstanding tradition of service to others. The site is designed to connect users with volunteer opportunities in their areas. It is also a tool that allows volunteers to track their activities to help promote Nebraska as the No. 1 state in volunteerism and create a chain reaction of good will.
To participate, individuals and teams of volunteers are invited to register their activities at www.Serve.Nebraska.com or www.ImpactNebraska.com. If organizers are interested, registered activities can be published at the aforementioned websites to open the events to other interested volunteers.
