SNOWCATCHER written and performed by Becky Boesen

December 3, 2017 - December 4, 2017

SNOWCATCHER, produced by BLIXT, is a live theatrical performance designed to challenge and engage while offering a very personal look into Nebraska history. Inspired by the School Children’s Blizzard of 1888, SNOWCATCHER gives a voice to both the victims of the storm and to the children of our current world who are searching for a place to truly call “home.” Other issues addressed in the play include the death of a loved one, poverty, hunger, issues of diversity and inclusion, physical and mental health, eminent domain, immigration and emigration. The play features multiple characters, all portrayed by the playwright herself, and is directed by Robin McKercher. “SNOWCATCHER is pure riveting theatre. Boesen’s script is tight, heartfelt, and has a most satisfying arc for all ages,” said McKercher.

In the winter of 1888 a ferocious blizzard rips through the prairie without warning, leaving thousands of children struggling to find their way safely home from school. Six year-old Hattie is stranded in the blizzard, somewhere between “a dream and here with me now.” She is driven by a haunting vision: her secret friend is trapped in the storm. Hattie knows what happens to children in a blizzard. One touch from the SNOWCATCHER will turn them into ice! Will she be able to save her friend without meeting the SNOWCATCHER?

Perfect for all audiences, SNOWCATCHER is a tribute to the unbreakable spirit of the American Homesteader, and to all those who came before them.

SNOWCATCHER will have its world premiere at the Midwest Theater on March 30, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., followed by student matinees and community engagement activities on March 31 and April 1.
