“Stranger from Paradise”: An opera drawn from the lives and works of William and Catherine Blake

May 26, 2017 - May 27, 2017

Friday, May 26, 2017, 7:30 PM
Saturday, May 27, 2017, 2:00 PM & 7:30 PM

Created by Nebraskan librettist/director Kevin Lawler and composer Nevada Jones, the opera will feature an all local cast of singers and a chamber orchestra featuring all musicians from the Omaha Symphony. The performances will be conducted by Nebraskan Hal France.

This opera is free to the public. We be taking reservations due to a limited seating capacity.

In addition to the performances, our community programs department is developing a series of engagement opportunities surrounding the program. Such community programs include a week-long residency with former Oxford University Blake scholar Michael Phillips in April 2017. Mr. Phillips will be leading printmaking workshops and lectures at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Creighton University and The Union for Contemporary Art. Collaborating with Gallery 1516, the gallery will be bringing an exhibit of Michael Phillips’s Blake prints on display in May 2017. We are also in the stages of collaborating with the Nebraska Writers’ Collective in a middle and high school poetry contest, which will be based on Blake’s poetic style.
