Nebraska will celebrate its sesquicentennial in 2017. Planning and development for this major benchmark era in the history of the state has been on-going for several years and “Painting the Legacy of Nebraska” is one of the first major projects to be initiated. It will provide an opportunity for recognition and pride throughout the entire state. All 93 counties will be included and the paintings will feature historic locations and aesthetic scenes relevant to each individual locale.
The Painting the Legacy of Nebraska exhibition and educational art project will be a monumental exhibition heralding the nostalgia and history of Nebraska. Internationally recognized and Nebraska native, artist Todd Williams’s mission is to depict significant historic, geographic, and figurative elements from each of the 93 counties. He has worked with historians, sponsors, and leaders in each county to help him determine significant subjects. These paintings will inspire thousands of people in Nebraska and reach well beyond the state’s borders with a traveling exhibition, a Legacy of Nebraska commemorative collectors’ art book, and a documentary film produced by NET, Nebraska’s public television affiliate.

Having been born and raised in the great State of Nebraska, I’ve always been inspired by the awesome sunsets of my childhood. After receiving my education in Central City, Nebraska from grade school to high school, I knew God had gifted me to become a fine artist. I enrolled in classes at the Central Community College in Columbus, and graduated with an Associates Degree. I transferred to the Kansas City Art Institute where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts. I then worked full-time for the next ten years for Hallmark Cards till 2002, when I officially resigned to pursue being a Professional Fine Artist.
It is my vision to give recognition and awareness of my great State and bring its beauty to life on canvas. My goal is to paint one or more Masterful Paintings of each county in Nebraska. I desire to show not only the historical legacy but also the diversity and simplicity of the landscape and landmarks.
Under the influence of the great turn of the century American Impressionists, some of the paintings will be created “en plein air” and others in the studio. The finished collection of paintings will travel throughout the State of Nebraska in 2017 for Nebraska’s Sesquicentennial Celebration. At the first venue, we will have a Special Gala Reception for those parties (counties, state, corporate, or individuals) that have sponsored or contributed to the project.

My heart’s desire for this project is to reawaken an appreciation for the Arts while preserving the unique beauty and heritage that Nebraska has to offer.
It is with great joy that I embark on this journey to capture the legacy of my birth place. I want to reveal Nebraska through the eyes of an Artist. I invite you to stand alongside me with pride as we take this journey together.
