This exhibit utilizes archival photos and documents depicting the life of York native Fred Niblo (1874-1948), a pioneer Hollywood director and co-founder of the Academy Awards. The roster of stars he directed included Garbo, Fairbanks and Valentino. In addition to these illustrious credits, Niblo had an earlier career in nationwide Vaudeville and New York City live theater. He also spent time touring Australia and Africa, where he became an accomplished photographer. Throughout the years, Niblo maintained a frequent correspondence with his York County relatives. His birth house still stands in York and land homesteaded by his father is still farmed by relatives.
