In 1967, the Nebraska Centennial Commission published the Nebraska Centennial Literary Map and Guide to Nebraska Authors. The Language Arts Council (NELAC) later sought and acquired permission to publish updated versions of the Nebraska Literary Map with Native Wildflowers in 1996 and the Guide to Nebraska Authors in 1998. The books are a compilation of more than 700 authors’ profiles and their major publications. Many of the featured writers have since added to their body of work and a large number of new authors have since been published.
In 2017, NELAC published an updated edition, A Guide to More Nebraska Authors, in commemoration of Nebraska’s sesquicentennial. The book was made available to schools and libraries throughout the state. Readings were held at select locations throughout the state. Sale proceeds were be used to assist educators working to enhance reading and writing teaching practices.
