Nebraska By Heart was a public art project designed to celebrate each of the state’s 93 counties during the sesquicentennial. Artists from across the state submitted proposals to adorn 6-foot fiberglass hearts symbolic of America’s Heartland, which were fastened to a base in the shape of Nebraska. Eighty-nine sculptures were created and displayed throughout the City of Lincoln and on the University of Nebraska – Lincoln campus. All of the sculptures were displayed together at Haymarket Park in October and auctioned off to buyers. Proceeds were split between the artists and Boys Hope Girls Hope and the Sadie Dog Fund.
