In 1992, the Nebraska State Quilt Guild (NSQG) sponsored a wall quilt competition to celebrate 125 years of statehood. Following this tradition, the NSQG created the sesquicentennial wall quilt competition titled Inspired by Nebraska’s Diversity. Participants submitted 24” by 24” wall quilts designed with the theme in mind. Cash awards were presented to the top three quilts. Lincoln resident Dorothy Heidemann-Nelson’s won first place honors for her piece, Nebraska: The Land And The People. Finishing second and third, respectively, were Lynn Greer of Edgar with Nebraska Beginnings and Beyond and Marilyn Rembolt of Lincoln with If Only the Bugeaters Could See Nebraska Now. All 35 entries were displayed at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum in January. Following that exhibit, the three winning quilts, along with five quilts that earned honorable mention, toured the state.
